@landgrinch: heh, indeed they are. The portraits are renders of the 3D models built for our gameplay perspective. We will be reducing his meaty arms (along with a paintover from our original character concept artist) for the final ones.

I thought it was kind of cool that they were oversized. It certainly has a lot of precedence in the art world. Even The David has an intentionally oversized right hand. I thought it had some kind of thematic tie in.

Argh, turn down the game audio if you're going to talk over it!

At 12:40 and for at least two minutes I've been trying to listen to people talking over people shouting in-game. The game isn't as loud as Brad and company, but I still hear it well enough for it to be really disorienting.

@lanechanger: I kind of miss shaggy/mountain-man Brad.

As far as the game goes, I'm liking what I see so far. I think it says something that I was interested in what the characters were saying and wished that Brad and Chris weren't talking over them (not saying I didn't appreciate Chris explaining the game and its mechanics/inspiration). I may not need a second Quick Look before picking it up.

I'm trying and failing to remember (without looking it up) what the last Brad/Drew quick look was before this one. In fact, I'm drawing a blank on which Brad/Drew quick looks I've even seen. That's how long it's been.

Edit: Astroneer, like 3 days ago. Ugh my declining memory.

Seems like this game would just make me twirl the right stick around 24/7 to hit all the icon popups. Having conversations tied to information pieces makes sense, but when there are hundreds of little snippets you have to manually open, players might not feel inclined to read them all.

I also feel like I got familiar with the gta maps BECAUSE there's a map available to learn from. It also helps that the Gta districts can vary greatly in aesthetics. With this game having one distinct style, and no clear landmarks so far, I think a lot of people will get frustrated by the lack of a minimap.

Last point of critique are the character portraits. Yes, that art is not final and it will look better. But to me, the whole idea of showing portraits like that makes it feel like a cheap visual novel. I rather see a stylish window with a talking head (invisible Inc, galaxz, starcraft,mgs) or rely on the gameplay models (shadow complex.)

Best of luck to the devs. The lighting and music do look good.

I still don't know what you do in this game. Just running between anonymous grey terminals and getting text logs to open another grey terminal? To the point were the dev didn't know which grey terminal he was meant to go to next.

Still it looks nice.

@avanzato: It's good to get comments like yours because it means I'm failing to communicate or show certain aspects of the game. Obviously, there will be people who are just not into it, but this helps illuminate what we or I need to do better about getting people excited or interested in it.

If I think we're demonstrating A and B about the game, but people are just picking up on A, then it means I need to be better at showing B.

I won't make a change I don't believe in, but I do appreciate all the comments here, positive and negative.

This demo reminded me of the beginning of Baldur's Gate 2 where you wake up in a mysterious dungeon and fight your way out. Even the music is reminiscent of it. I liked the futuristic and shadow complex-ish setting, and dual stick shooter controls look great for this kind of game too. I'm interested!

I'm not sure if this is something that will be added later on, but the (intentionally I assume) hyper clean hallways all tend to blend together to the point where the game started resembling a gigantic maze. Maybe that is what they are going for, but as a viewer I was starting to weirdly zone out and lose focus as they ran through the 90 degree hallways. Maybe some variation in lighting, signage on the walls, or differentiating textures would help to remember that "oh yah, go straight past the broken light; oh this is the place with the graffiti on the wall" so on and so forth.

@humanity: Yes, this is something we are definitely aware of and will address. The idea from the beginning was always going to be these pristine hallways to the naked eye, but lots of AR that is revealed as you look around with your characters "lenses."

There are also some decorative color coding that go on the walls for different areas (security is blue, maintenance is orange, etc), but those will be used to fill in what we feel the AR doesn't accomplish.

Your mention of "graffiti on the wall" makes me want to add Augmented Reality graffiti! I am adding that to the list :)

Maybe it's a nostalgia thing? Kind of reminds me of games I played in the 90's. The one that comes to mind is Crusader: No Remorse, one of my favorite games, but there are others that just aren't coming to mind right now. Isometric view used to be pretty popular.

GTA's worlds are learnable because each district has it's own look and landmarks. While playing the game, you start to realize that you access the docks by driving past the beach. And that your safehouse is near the nightclub.

If the entire corporation has this pristine maze-like quality, without any clear landmarks, i think it would prevent people from learning the map in a similar way.

AR Graffiti seems super cool. Mocked it up and yah I can see entire hallways covered in this in the "slummier" areas, if such places exist in the game.

It's probably important to note that there are other areas of the game that do not take place in the pristine halls of Vestige.

I swear the title card was going to animate in..such as each letter rotating vertically :). This game, I like it's visual style. If it has a strong story and great music I definitely don't mind the slow deliberate pace(I'm assuming it seems that way due to it being tactical).
