Super Mario 64 takes the Mario franchise into polygonal worlds, setting numerous standards for 3D game design along the way.
Sega's 8-bit hardware received a unique game in the Ninja Gaiden series. It has similar gameplay to the NES trilogy, but is an all-new game, with a new story, different levels, and new gameplay mechanics, including a new wall-to-wall jump mechanic, which carried over to the later 3D games.
Shion and his Monster World Companions go on a quest to defeat BioMeka and his army of monsters, to restore peace to the land. Shion must make use of the special abilities of his companions in each world. Combines platforming and RPG elements, similar that in Castlevania II: Simon's Quest.
Super Mario Bros. 3 sends Mario on a whole new adventure across diverse worlds and sporting strange new suits and abilities.
A 1987 Arcade game. The player takes control of Joe Musashi, a master ninja whose mission is to rescue all of the hostages. SEGA's ninja game predates Ninja Gaiden for the NES and includes challenging platforming, first-person mini-games, and scaleable difficulty.
Wonder Boy is back and trouble has brewed in Monster Land. This is the second in the Wonder Boy series, developed by Westone and published for many consoles and home computers, occasionally with whole new graphics.
