There had been rumblings for a while that we would see an announcement related to the next Call of Duty soon, and today Infinity Ward finally obliged. The next entry in the Call of Duty franchise will be called Call of Duty: Modern Warfare III, which many people will likely short to just Modern Warfare III. The game has a confirmed release date of November of this year. Some of you may recall that there were leaks pertaining to this announcement and the leaks suggested that Infinity Ward plans to segue Call of Duty players into Modern Warfare III in-game with Call of Duty: Warzone 2.0. More specifically, the leaks suggested that on August 17th Warzone 2 would have an in-game event that reveals more details about the COD game planned for 2023.
Currently there are not a ton of details about the game beyond what those leaks revealed. However, Infinity Ward did playfully hint that slide cancelling, a technique used by many in the COD e-sports community, would be returning. Slide cancelling was in the original Warzone and 2019’s Modern Warfare, but for Warzone 2.0 and Modern Warfare 2 Infinity Ward deliberately programmed the games to make the technique impossible.
