    The then Colonel Johnathon J. "Jack" O'Neill was the team leader of SG-1 until season 8 of the series Stargate SG-1, where he took control of Stargate command, being promoted to the rank of Brigadier General . He soon moved to take up control of the department of Home-world security based at the Pentagon following a promotion to Major General and later Lieutenant General. He was succeeded in his role as Commander of Stargate Command by Major General Hank Landry.

    During his time in SG-1, the then Colonel O'Neill played a key part in stopping the advances of the hostile alien race known as the Goa'uld, and also the hostile robot race known as the Replicators.
