    Overview

    The Monster Maker series are games that range from card game simulators to traditional RPGs to fantasy-themed board games similar to the Dokapon series. The franchise saw many adaptations from different developers and publishers putting their own spin on the material.

    These games include:

    • The SOFEL games. They produced Monster Maker (1990) and Monster Maker II (1993) for the Game Boy, which were RPGs that used cards for their combat system, and Monster Maker III (1993) for the Super Famicom which had far fewer card game elements.
    • SOFEL also produced the Famicom game Monster Maker: 7-tsu no Hihou (1991).
    • Monster Maker Kids (1994), also from SOFEL, is a board game that uses cards. It was released on the Super Famicom.
    • The Game Boy game Monster Maker: Barcode Saga (1993) from Namco was one of a handful of games to use the Barcode Reader peripheral for the portable.
    • NEC Interchannel's Monster Maker: Yami no Ryuukishi (1994) for the PC Engine CD. This game ended on a cliffhanger, but its Sega Saturn sequel was canceled mid-development.
    • The GBA games Monster Maker: Flash Card (2002) and Monster Maker: Killer Dice (2002). Both versions could communicate with each other, a common feature of the Pokemon series.
