Yes, it's low-res, but it's also not going to be funny after this week. Use it well.

Who cares...lol

True, this forum for discussion on enthusiast videogame topics isn't the place.

This should be a safe space from big thoughts.

@efesell: ...Do YOU have the site numbers?

Contrary to popular belief, most businesses don't just get rid of products that make them money. And considering how many places are getting shut down lately, it's probably fair to assume that the money just isn't there in this industry the way it used to be.

I'm genuinely confused by someone being this naive. I don't know should I be happy for them or just worried. Mostly just amazed that someone has completely missed stories after stories of corporations fumbling balls.

I don't also know why we would assume that Waypoint was doing bad given that they always crashed through their fundraising goals and by all accounts Waypoint+ was a runaway success on a level that the parent company had not expected. At some point you've got to use Occam's razor, even if you harbor antipathy towards the subject.

I'm pretty sure you people going on about the "fuck capitalism" statement are taking it too seriously. It's clear that the statement is an emotional reaction to the cutthroat reality that capitalism can be, like the massive layoffs. Too big to fail corporations getting bailed out instead of punished when they lead the economy towards a recession because of there corruption and other examples. Of course, at the end of the day, people need to make money to put food on the table and pay the rent. And they know capitalism in America isn't going to end anytime soon. They are just letting out their frustration and rightfully so. Let them. It's not that big of a deal.

America leads the world in creation of billionaires, which some people take to be a "winning proposition" because a) they've projected their egos onto the "high-score" mentality that the bigger number=better country or b) they're GENUINELY still buying into the lies of "trickle-down economics" or the fact that they themselves are only temporarily being kept out of the club, and obviously someone of their skills and intelligence will work hard and get there. This is also why they tend to pretend engagement with arguments and then just throw up a shield of jaded disaffection when it's clear they have nothing to say. "It's just a videogame forum, why you getting so mad, bruh?" etc.

They put zero stock into social safety nets, and can only think of words like "socialism" and "universal healthcare/basic income" as boogeyman phrases without actually understanding what they do and mean. You can see how anytime socialism is brought up, the kneejerk counter is "VENEZUELA!" and never France, Germany, Switzerland, England, Canada, anyplace where that form of government has worked for decades, and in the case of Canada actually has an insulating effect from economic crashes.

While I do think that "Fuck capitalism" is largely a rallying cry for like-minded individuals: of course it's not actually a call to action and is just venting, I just find it tremendously ironic that the people who do mental gymnastics to justify someone else's wealth take it seriously riiiiiiiiiiiiight up to themselves not having any actual point to make.

@av_gamer: So all the points about wildly inconsistent quality, terrible writing, tryhard characterization, and rose-tinted glasses on the 2D games="everyone secretly loves it because no one can come up with any REAL complaints"?

This is some confirmation bias+no True Scotsman fallacy thinking here.

I fucking hate Okra. Doesn’t mean I secretly love okra but I’m embarrassed so I badmouth it to make others think I hate it. I just think is tastes bad. Some people I love dearly love okra. I don’t get it, but I understand that they are being honest when they say they love it, I don’t assume that Big-Okra paid them off for some positive reviews. That’s would be a paranoid, incurious way to live life, never believe someone could have an opinion different than mine.

Put far better. Why is it so important to OP's enjoyment of a thing that THESE PEOPLE SPECIFICALLY like it? One can go lots of places on the internet to find people genuinely enjoying Sonic, one doesn't have to insist the people who don't are "just foolin'"

@curseofthewise: Whateeeeever makes you happy!

Educating people on the realities of capitalism makes me VERY happy, thanks!

If prosperity is to be judged on the bank account of top earners, then capitalism is a glorious system! If it's to be judged on things like quality of life, education, medical care, and dignity of the people who make that wealth possible, it's a bad joke.

It just depends on whether one wants to keep score or look at the average.

The fact is: quality of life for workers has decreased as things like de-regulation and corporate influence have increased. There is no "trickle down" when those at the top hoard rather than re-invest their wealth. That's a fact, everything else is just fog. There is no longer a middle-class in this country, where once there was a burgeoning and strong one.

When I was young, it was all about "working hard to get ahead," and now that illusion has been broken and you've got multi-billion dollar companies telling employees things like "times are tough for everyone, we're a family here!"

And like a family: they expect certain members to work harder for nothing.

@theodoricfriede: You should probably look up "ad hominem attack" in-between uninformed takes on countries and governance you continuously demonstrate your own ignorance about.

You can attack arguments all you like in these forums. You can't attack people, sunshine.

@murderdeathmill: Ignoring all context and throwing out weird buzzwords MIGHT NOT be the slam-dunk argument you imagine.

It's why I pay for YouTube premium. Makes YouTube 100 times better to use.

Also THIS. THIS. THIS.

I don't know why this isn't more standard, it's truly not THAT expensive, it eradicates all the ads, AND creators get more from your views. It's win/win/win, though I understand that not everyone can afford an extra $15/month, which is why I list a bunch of alternatives.

$15/month is a lot, especially to just remove ads. $15/month is more than Hulu no ads (which actually is about to jump to $15), Netflix, Disney+, Peacock, Apple TV+, Paramount+, and others. It's the same price as HBO Max no ads. All of these other services unlock tons of content to watch. Youtube Premium... removes ads.

To be faiiiiiiiiiiiiiiiiyah: you also gain a music player ad-free with damn near every recorded song in existence. Lots of people play for things like Napster or Spotify when YouTube Premium is right there, you can watch plenty of content on other channels ad-free with it, and if you're a huge consumer of things like GB content or other Youtubers. If it's affecting your enjoyment THIS much, it seems very worth the money.

Hulu's also weird because you CAN absolutely pay more to REMOVE ads without gaining any further access. Plus they drop content like crazy.
